Panther Press got an exclusive opportunity to interview Madison Hagler, the director of the DeKalb County Fine Arts Theater Program for his upcoming production Elf, Jr. The Musical. From the director’s insightful reflections on character development to the challenge of bringing a script to life, this interview unveils a tapestry of creative decisions that set the stage for an unforgettable production.

-When did work begin on Elf Jr.?

September 5 was the first day of rehearsal but they have been working behind the scenes since last school year.

-What has been the biggest challenge while in the process?

How expressive and over the top they have to be because the show is directed to kids.

-What has been a positive aspect of the process?

I always love the first time reading the script together. It’s fun to watch other people be their character for the first time.

-Time frame of opening to school performance? To the public?

School performances: Dec 4-8

Community Performances are December 1st, 2nd, 8th, and 9th. Tickets can be purchased online at www.our.show/elfdcfa.
