On November 19-20, the classes of Mrs. Arnold, the FACS teacher of Collinsville High School, made their own thanksgiving dinner. For example, third period made: mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, baked potatoes, brownies, and fajitas.
First the students got in their own groups, decided which dish they were going to make, and listed the ingredients for their dishes. Once the dishes were decided, Mrs. Arnold went to the store and bought the ingredients needed.
The cooking process started the minute the students stepped into her class the next day. The students then headed into the kitchen and started making their dishes. Everyone enjoyed cooking their food, interacting with each other, and trying the food. Although some dishes were made faster than others, and
needed to be saved for the next day, everyone got to eat the food that was cooked. We might not have had the traditional turkey or ham that is typically served for Thanksgiving, but the food was great! The mashed potatoes were very good as well as the baked potatoes. The fajitas were served with a salsa that
enhanced the overall flavor. Usually when one makes brownies it is difficult, but the brownies made had an amazing taste and great form, even after being served. The macaroni and cheese was cooked then baked and it was so cheesy, soft, and delicious. For this, we have Mrs. Arnold to thank. We had never been ale to do anything like this before, so we are all grateful for Mrs. Arnold and for everything she does for her classes and the school.
